The achievements of our spring clear up on 13-16 March 2014, were…
360 bags of rubbish and recycling, lots of scrap metal and debris including:
furniture, kitchenware, car parts, scaffolding (recovered & returned to company), electrical items and lots of glass bottles collected & taken to recycling banks.
345 people took part over four days, from 23 organisations, clearing 35 sites between them.
510 hours of clearing up time between them all, not including organisation time before the long weekend.
Result: lots of satisfied happy people and a cleaner environment for everyone to enjoy!
And from Thurs 9 to Sat 11 October we achieved the below:
18 sites cleared
12 groups took part – mostly listed below.
166 bags of rubbish, including some recycling bags, plus a tonne of debris
108 people took part
300 volunteering hours which is worth £4500 of financially calculated contribution
Event sponsored by Thames water, coordinated by RBC, who also provided 2 vehicles and 5 staff on the day to clear rubbish quickly from sites as part of the councils commitment to work in partnership with volunteers to keep Reading clean.
The event went very well – groups missed the heavy showers predicted and on the whole had a dry event!
It’s inspiring to see so many people give up their spare time to come together on issues that they care about for the common good.
And the collective contribution from businesses was:
44 bags collected
5 sites cleared
106 volunteer hours from 3 business teams
